TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Car racers and enthusiasts from Tabuk city and nearby provinces participated in the first tarmak and slalom racing held today, June 23 at the Kalinga Sports Complex (formerly CARAA grounds).
In an interview with Michael Mendoza of Karera Philippines, a group of vehicle racers and fans located in Nueva Ecija, he revealed that the event was arranged to promote tarmak and slalom as forms of car entertainment.
He described tarmak as a competitive motorsport that takes place on closed public highways where racers compete against the clock to complete a course that includes 360 cones and 180 boxes. This category only allows 4×2 and 4×4 vehicles, such as SUVs and pickup trucks.
Slalom driving, on the other hand, is a timed race along a twisting or zigzag track, passing a succession of flags or markers. There were 60 cones and 18 boxes set here by the organizers.
Mendoza stated that the slalom cones and boxes were positioned to limit distance, reduce speed, and test the driver’s maneuvering ability.
The categories for ‘tarmak’ are small body, large body, open production, and extreme end prototype vehicles.
Slalom classifications include newbie, stock production, novice modified, front wheel modified, front wheel injected, SUV class, diesel class, and female class vehicles.
Mendoza ensures that with their more exhilarating and aggressive driving experiences, slalom and tarmak are ideal for adventurers who appreciate the speed of a sports car or anything else that moves quickly.
The city government has provided cash rewards to the winners of these two events. The winners will be announced tomorrow, at the end of the event. By Darwin S. Serion
