BAGUIO CITY – The chairman of the City Council Committee on Market, Trade, Commerce and Agriculture disclosed that thousands of micro, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the different parts of the city were already able to avail of the services provided by the Negosyo Center right at the on-stop shop in city hall over the past several months.
Councilor Leandro B. Yangot, Jr., chairman of the said committee, said many local entrepreneurs were able to improve their businesses because of the various interventions that were provided them by the personnel and business advisers of the Negosyo Center which was operational for several months now.
“We learned that many of our micro and small entrepreneurs were able to improve the status of their business operations through the assistance of the Negosyo Center which linked them to the concerned government agencies that provided them with support programs geared towards improving the status of their business operations, especially those located in the different barangays of the city,” Councilor Yangot stressed.
Earlier, the local government entered into a memorandum of agreement with the Cordillera office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI-CAR) for the latter to put up the Negosyo Center in the space that will be provided by the former at the city hall one-stop shot to cater to the inquires of local entrepreneurs on how to improve their businesses among other concerns ranging from their operations up to their expansions and the acquisition of financial and technical support from private and public institutions.
Yangot claimed that the services provided by the Negosyo Center, especially in linking local entrepreneurs with different public and private institutions, greatly contributed in improving the business atmosphere even in the barangay level wherein the improved marketing and packaging of locally produced products have translated to the improved economy of the city.
According to him, with the fast improving business climate in the city, many entrepreneurs are enticed to expand their businesses which will translate to the creation of more jobs for the people as well as increased sources of livelihood for those doing business.
The put up of the Negosyo Center was an offshoot of a resolution that emanated from the local legislative body that requested the DTI-CAR to work out the establishment of the center in the local government to help in cascading to the grassroots level the important services that should be downloaded for the benefit of improving the prevailing state of doing business in the city.
The local government continues to provide support to the Negosyo Center by assigning personnel who will help the assigned personnel from the DTI-CAR to cater to the rapidly increasing number of inquiries from local entrepreneurs on how to avail of the services being provided by the center for the improved operation and possible expansion of their businesses, especially the micro and small businesses that are existing in the different barangays of the city.
Councilor Yangot urged interested local entrepreneurs to continue maximising the existence of the Negosyo Center at city hall to help them in whatever will be their needs in the future to enhance their operations for the benefit of their clients and for their economic upliftment in the future.
