BAGUIO CITY – Some three thousand seven hundred one violators of various land transportation laws were successfully arrested by law enforcers of the Cordillera office of the land Transportation Office (LTO-CAR) in different parts of the region during the first quarter of the year.
LTO-CAR regional director Francis Ray Almora disclosed that Baguio City topped the list with the most number of arrested violators with 2,244 followed by Mountain Province with 571 arrested violators, Apayao – 341 violators, Kalinga – 255 violators, Abra – 132 violators, Benguet – 88 violators and Ifugao – 70 violators.
In Baguio City, the common violations of the apprehended motorists were failure to wear the prescribed seatbelt with 755, failure to carry official receipt and certificate of registration – 258, driving an unregistered motor vehicle – 235, motor vehicle operating without or with defective or improper and unauthorized accessories, devices, equipment and parts – 230 and reckless driving – 227.
Motorists who failed to wear the prescribed seatbelt topped the list of violators in Mountain Province with 175 followed by driving without a valid license, conductors permit with 87, motor vehicle operating without or with defective or improper and unauthorized accessories, devices, equipment and parts – 73, driving an unregistered motor vehicles and reckless driving with 62 each.
Reckless driving topped the most number of violators of various land transportation laws in Apayao with 64 followed by driving without a valid license or conductors permit with 54, driving an unregistered motor vehicle – 53, failure to wear the prescribed seatbelt – 48 and motor vehicle operating without or with defective or improper unauthorized accessories, devices, equipment and parts – 23.
In Kalinga, reckless driving was also the most number of violations that were recorded among motorists who were apprehended with 48 followed by driving an unregistered vehicle with 47, driving without valid drivers license or conductors permit – 38, failure to wear the prescribed seatbelt – 35 and failure to carry official receipt and certificate of registration – 26.
Failure to carry official receipt and certificate of registration was the most number of violations among motorists in Abra with 41 followed by failure to wear the prescribed seatbelt with 32, driving an unregistered motor vehicle and reckless driving – 11 each and motor vehicle operating without or with defective improper unauthorized accessories, devices, equipment and parts – 10.
Motorists driving without driver’s license or conductors permit topped the most number of apprehensions in Benguet with 35 followed by failure to wear the standard protective motorcycle helmet with 12, driving an unregistered motor vehicle – 10, reckless driving – 8 and failure to wear the prescribed seatbelt – 4.
In Ifugao, motorists driving an unregistered motor vehicle topped the most number of violators of land transportation laws with 22 followed by driving without a valid license or conductors permit with 11, failure to carry official registration and certificate of registration – 7, failure to wear the standard protective motorcycle helmet and reckless driving – 8 each.
Amora stipulated that there is still a long way to go in instilling discipline among drivers that is why the agency is doing its best to cascade to the grassroots level the importance of undergoing the required comprehensive drivers education prior to being issued the required driver’s license.
