LUNA, Apayao – The result might not be as good as what the Apayao Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DRRMC) attained but Luna Municipal DRMMC here has enough reason to rejoice and be proud of. After all, they are still the 2nd Best DRRM Council in Cordillera.
When the tedious process was over, Luna MDRRMC clinched 2nd placed behind La Trinidad, Benguet in the category of Best Municipal DRRMC under 1st to 3rd Class Municipality.
Mayor Josephine Bangsil and Municipal Treasurer Samuel Calilan recently accepted the plaque of recognition and cash award amounting to P30,000 during the 2016 Gawad KALASAG Awards Night in Baguio City.
According Calilan who is also the designate MDRRM Officer, they have proven that they can compete against the best in Cordillera considering that this is their first time to join the search for Gawad KALASAG Award. “Despite the result, we are still happy and satisfied. Placing 2nd is an achievement we can be proud of not only in the province but in the region.”
Calilan claimed that they only fell short for some points behind La Trinidad, Benguet. However, he vowed to come out better the next time since the Mayor Bangsil has been delighted with their hard works and the outcome.
“We have strongly started this and I believe we set a good standard in the province which can be emulated by other municipalities as to encourage them to join in this prestigious award,” Calilan said.
Meanwhile, Mayor Bangsil extended her commendation and warm appreciation to the efforts of MDRRMO personnel along with the active participation of all the members of the MDRRM Council. She assured her full support for the upcoming programs and activities of said office as this recent award has brought honor to the Municipality of Luna and the province.
The Gawad KALASAG is a search for excellence in disaster risk management and humanitarian assistance. It remains to be one of the country’s fully institutionalized program that promotes the spirit of volunteerism among agencies and individuals.
