LUNA, Apayao – In celebration of World Drug Day, also known as the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT), the municipal government organized a fun run titled “BIDA: Takbo Kontra Droga” on June 28, 2024.
Luna Mayor Josephine Bangsil led the event alongside representatives from the Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council (MADAC) with participants running from the Apayao-Cagayan boundary to the Luna Municipal Hall.
IDADAIT is observed annually to emphasize the importance of combating drug abuse and illicit trafficking globally. It serves as a platform for governments, organizations, and individuals to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drugs on individuals, families, and communities.
This year’s theme, “The Evidence is Clear: Invest in Prevention,” advocates for drug policies based on scientific research and human rights. It underscores the need for a comprehensive understanding of the social, economic, and health impacts of drug use, promoting evidence-based approaches to prevention and treatment.
The provincial government, along with national line agencies, supports this global initiative to tackle the drug problem.
Governor Elias C. Bulut, Jr. and Congress representative Eleanor C. Bulut-Begtang urged the youth to make healthy choices and support empowerment and education efforts. By Krizza Joy Castillo
