LUNA, Apayao – The municipal government joined the nationwide observance of National Women’s Month on March 12, 2025, at the BGV Jr. Sports Complex Gymnasium with a determined push for gender equality, women’s empowerment, and stronger action against violence and discrimination.
Themed “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas,” the celebration introduced a mix of advocacy discussions, wellness activities, and cultural performances.
Among the highlights of the fete was a discussion on Mental Health Awareness led by psychologist Maria Luisa Umingli and Dr. Roger Brazil. The session tackled emotional resilience and self-care, followed by exercise drills to promote physical and mental well-being.
Strengthening support systems for women and children, the event introduced the Women and Children Protection Unit and the Violence Against Women and Children Program, ensuring that victims have access to legal and psychological assistance.
Luna’s 23 barangays competed in a Creative Folk Dance Competition that displayed traditional dances infused with modern themes of empowerment. The event also crowned this year’s Mutya ng Kababaihan 2025.
Speaking on behalf of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer, Christopher Aman emphasized the provincial government’s continued commitment to gender inclusivity. “The Provincial Government of Apayao has always championed gender equality and women’s empowerment. The strong presence of Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (KALIPI) proves that women are recognized as notable contributors in our society,” he stated.
Once again, we are turning the page toward a future where women are not just seen but valued, not just heard but respected, not just included but empowered, and not just contributors to progress but equal beneficiaries of its success,” he added.
Luna Mayor Josephine Bangsil took a firm stand against gender-based violence and urged victims to break their silence. “No one should be left behind. Masapul nga ma-stop dagiti violence against women and children. Ado latta ti maabuso nga kababaihan gapu ta awan ti guts da nga ag-report. Masapul nga saan tayo nga mabain nga mangi-report bassit man ti violence,” she declared.
