LUNA, Apayao – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), through its Shared Service Facility Program, organized an advanced training on Loom Woven Textile Using Natural Dye Processing from July 8-10, 2024, in Luna, Apayao.
Said event was conducted in partnership with the Luna Weavers Association (LWA) with Luis Agaid, an entrepreneur and expert dye processor from Abra, steering the training as a resource speaker.
Agaid demonstrated how to extract colors from plants like atsuete, sibukaw, and talisay leaves. In addition to color extraction, Agaid discussed other topics such as costing, pricing, and marketing woven fabrics to meet customer preferences.
The training emphasized environmental sustainability by promoting the use of locally available natural dyes, reducing the reliance on harmful chemicals.
LWA participants gained hands-on experience dyeing their cotton threads, producing a variety of vibrant colors.
Moreover, DTI-Apayao Provincial Director Wena M. Buston encouraged the association members to apply their new skills to create innovative products and maintain high-quality standards to remain competitive.
She also urged them to seize opportunities, drawing inspiration from Agaid’s teachings. By Loremia Pareja
