BAGUIO CITY – Local residents and visitors will have the chance to personally witness the staging of an internationally acclaimed musical play “Senakulo” on Black Saturday, 04 April 2015 at the SM City Baguio.
Karren Nobres, SM City public relations manager, said the showing of the prestigious musical play will be their contribution to the city’s lined up crowd drawing events during the Holy Week in order to remind the people to revisit their lives and try to ponder on what they have done for the Almighty Father.
“We want to contribute on efforts on how to entice our people to continue living their lives the way our Lord wants us to live on this earth. We really need to make our Holy Week a fruitful one in enhancing our spiritual and moral values,” Nobres stressed.
The Senakulo production was organized to depict the passion and resurrection of Jesus according to the New Testament Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Recollections of the Nativity of Jesus and His childhood with Mary His Mother, with the twelve apostles, and the Last Supper are some of the scenes depicted.
The production also helps the out-of-school youths, students, professionals, laborers, vendors and workers hone their talents in acting on stage plays, be it one-act or full-length. After acquiring the necessary skills, they became part of various plays which were mostly mounted in Plaza Hugo community stage and, later on, in Sta. Ana Arts Center, a small indoor theater located at the backroom of the side stage built through the initiative of the founder with assistance of some friends.
Directed by Lou Veloso, features around 35 professional stage actors – Lance Raymundo as Jesus Christ; Bernardo Bernardo as Herod, to name a few. . It is a fundamental part of Filipino folk musical traditions, a rendition of the life and passion of Christ in the form of outdoor/indoor performances. The play starts from Christ’s nativity and ends on His resurrection.
“Through, the musical play, we aim to portray to our audience the suffering of Our Lord, His death, and the final theme is victory on His resurrection – the victory of Christ over death. On His death on the cross at Calvary, Mercy triumphs over justice. We want to make known that GOD’s mercy is unfathomable,” she added.
Proceeds of the musicale is to support art workshops to be conducted by different artists headed by Mr. Veloso, and the re-building of Tanghalang Sta. Ana.
Nobres is inviting local residents and visitors to visit the SM City Baguio on Black Saturday to witness the aforesaid show.
