BAGUIO CITY – A 35-year-old businessman was arrested by personnel of the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) on May 3, 2025, in AZCKO Barangay, Baguio City, for violating the COMELEC gun ban under the Omnibus Election Code.
The arrest came after personnel of Police Station 7 received a report that the suspect was in possession of a firearm inside his vehicle. Personnel proceeded to the location where the latter’s vehicle was parked. Upon verification, police recovered a 9mm Glock 45 pistol loaded with a magazine containing ten (10) live rounds. The firearm was registered but the suspect failed to show a Permit to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence (PTCFOR) and a Certificate of Authority from COMELEC, both required during the election period.
BCPO City Director, PCOL Ruel D. Tagel reminded the public that the COMELEC gun ban which took effect last January 12, 2025 remains in force and will continue until June 11, 2025.
The arrest is one of the measures being implemented to secure a peaceful national and local elections. “As part of our commitment to maintaining peace and order in the city, BCPO will continue to monitor and enforce the COMELEC gun ban and other election related laws. We encourage everyone to report any suspicious activities or violations, as we work together to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process and the safety of our community,” he said. He also stressed that those found violating the Code will be subjected to the full force of the law.
