TUBA, Benguet – A 45-year old man died after falling off a rock formation and plunged into a 200 meter deep ravine at Mount Kabuyao, Poblacion, here, recently.
Police authorities said that the victim was with two members of his family and had a picture-taking in the said rock formation when he allegedly lost his balance that caused him to fall off the said ravine.
The Mount Sto. Tomas area has been closed to tourists since 2014 following the issuance of the permanent environment protection order issued by the Court of Appeals due to alleged massive destruction that had been documented in the area.
Barangay officials reiterated that the said area is only open to residents and that no tourism activity is allowed without the necessary clearance from the barangay and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
