LANGIDEN, Abra October 16 – A 40-year old man was injured after he was hacked by his drinking partner while he was sleeping under a tamarind tree in the compound of their residence at Mabungtot, here, Friday.
Police authorities identified the victim as Nelson Nieves Martinez, 40, single and unemployed while the suspect was named as Aurelio Valera Fariñas, 54, married, farmer, both resident of Mabungtot, Langiden, Abra.
Initial police investigation showed that the victim and the suspect, together with some companions, were having a drinking spree when the former decided to go home and slept under a tamarind tree outside their house.
After a few moments, witnesses informed probers that they saw the suspect holding a bolo and walking towards the place where the victim was sleeping and for still unknown reasons, he allegedly hacked him twice on his head before fleeing towards an undisclosed direction.
The victim was rushed to the Abra Provincial Hospital for medical treatment while the suspect voluntarily surrendered to barangay officials who eventually turned him and his bolo over to concerned police operatives for the filing of the necessary case against him.
