MANKAYAN, Benguet – The municipal government recently ensured the preparedness of concerned offices and the barangays for the expected increase in dengue and other rainy-day illnesses that might heavily impact on the existing health care system and added up to the stress of frontliners, especially the health workers.
Mayor Frenzel A. Ayong convened a meeting among frontline offices of the municipal government to remind them to be alert for the expected increase in dengue fever and other rainy-day illnesses with the onset of the rainy season to ensure that the situation will still be under control so as not to aggravate the difficult situation created by the ongoing Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
While the COVID situation has been placed under control and with the added threat from the Delta variant, he pointed out that the need for frontliners not to be complacent because of the projected increase in dengue fever and other rainy-day illnesses.
The local chief executive claimed that programs, projects and activities of concerned government agencies and the municipal government must not be compromised by the efforts to contain the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic because the unexpected surges in dengue and other rainy-day illnesses must also be addressed.
According to him, it is important for people to immediately seek early medical attention when they are not feeling well.
Further, Mayor Ayong also reminded residents to ensure the cleanliness of their surroundings and to destroy the breeding ground of dengue-carrying mosquitoes which are containers of clear and stagnant water to avoid the proliferation of the said mosquitoes that could cause outbreaks of the deadly illnesses that might complicate the existing difficult situation.
He urged people to cooperate with the ongoing programs, projects and activities of concerned government agencies and the municipal government to ensure the practice of personal hygiene inside and outside their residences to prevent them from contracting illnesses that might complicate their health condition, contribute in compromising the local health care system and stress the already tired frontliners.
Mayor Ayong stipulated that the government is focused in ensuring the health and safety of the people during this ongoing pandemic while efforts are also being done to allow the gradual and safe revival of the heavily impacted economy for more people to resume their economic activities. By HENT
