The Mankayan Local Government Unit (LGU) together with school leaders and parent-officers conducted a joint conference with DepEd-CAR to discuss and share the accomplishments, find solutions to issues as part of the Basic Learning Continuity Plan, held at Mankayan National High School recently.
The said conference was initiated to have a better grasp of the picture beyond what is presented by tabular and graphical reports. Estela L. Cariño, Dep-Ed Regional Director, recounted that this has been the 11th municipality they have visited through the program,
“Regional Office on Wheels.” She also encouraged DepEd-Mankayan to work collaboratively with the LGU because they are inseparable.
On the other hand, Gloria B. Buya-ao, Schools Division Superintendent, reiterated to procure facilities such as tablets, transmitters and two-way radios through the support of LGU and other stakeholders. Further, she encouraged schools to harness the power of technology to improve the learning modality and increase the engagement of learners in the teaching- learning process.
Meanwhile, Frenzel A. Ayong, Municipal Mayor, shared the LGU accomplishments related to education such as evacuation centers and multipurpose buildings. As a believer of the tagline “We find ways,” he assured the completion of unfinished buildings and facilities should there be future difficulties. “Kung ayaw, may dahilan, Kung gusto may paraan,” he added.
In addition, Municipal Councilor Hector Gacita presented other DepEd-related projects of the LGU such as Community-based Mental Health Program and Information Education Campaign (IEC) on Air. “Either we work together or no work at all,” he ended.
During the open forum, issues such as school titling, “School Board teachers Sa Pinas Ikaw ang Ma’am and Sir” (SPIMS) program, and the status of building construction and facilities were discussed and put light into. By JARDSON S. ONIO
