MANKAYAN, Benguet  – The municipal government urged residents in the town’s twelve barangays to be vigilant on the alleged presence of drug dealers in their communities to prevent them from being exposed to the serious negative effects of the use of illegal drugs to their bright future.

Mayor Frenzel A. Ayong said members of each family must now be concerned over the behavior of their relatives and constantly remind those who seem to be deviating from their normal activities to stop being involved in the sale and use of illegal drugs because it will surely ruin their bright future and destroy their reputations in their communities.

Earlier, an alleged drug dealer was arrested by combined police operatives and anti-narcotics agents after having found in his possession some 20 grams of shabu worth over P136,000 during a drug buy bust operation at Barangay Balili, here, recently.

While casting doubt on the place where the drug suspect was arrested, Mayor Ayong said what is important now is the enhanced gathering of information by members of the barangay anti-drug abuse councils (BADACs), municipal anti-drug abuse council (MADC), police and anti-narcotics agents, to identify the personalities involved in the sale and use of illegal drugs so at the earliest possible time, corrective measures could still be done to change their behavior and reform themselves through the help of their family members.

“We want to curb the proliferation of illegal drugs in our municipality with the cooperation of our residents. We want the members of each family to be observant on the activities of their relatives and institute the necessary corrective measures if possible or refer the matter to concerned authorities for appropriate action,” Mayor Ayong stressed.

The municipal chief executive challenged police operatives and anti-narcotics agents to intensify their intelligence-gathering to identify drug pushers and users who can be accorded with the necessary measures for them to stop their illegal activities or face the consequences of their being involved in such illegal activity.

Ayong declared the municipal government is totally against illegal drugs because of its serious negative effect to the bright future of the individuals involved in the illegal activity that is why concerned sectors must be united in their actions to prevent the entry of illegal drugs in the different barangays.

According to him, the municipal government will continue supporting the local police force in their operational needs for them to be able to intensify their operations to curb the proliferation of illegal drugs in the locality and thwart whatever efforts of drug group members to sell their contraband.

Among the sectors that are now being closely watched by the authorities include the farmers, pocket miners, drivers, youth and the other vulnerable sectors to prevent them from being addicted to the use of illegal drugs.

The mayor called on the residents to cooperate with the law enforcers in the gathering of information so that the concerned authorities will be able to craft the appropriate strategies that will contribute in the efforts of the government to curb the proliferation of illegal drugs in the municipality.
