The Lepanto National High School (LNHS), and the Cordillera Regional Science High School (CRSHS) bagged the 2015 Benguet Division Schools Press Conference – Secondary Division held last November 25-28, 2015 at the Benguet National High School (Benguet NHS), Wangal, La Trinidad, Benguet.
With a total score of 158 each during the four-day event, LNHS and the CRSHS bested over 50 other schools for the coveted title in the different journalistic disciplines.
The LNHS, from Mankayan, garnered a total of 85 points in the English category, 35 from the individual points and 52 from the group points, while placing third in the Filipino category with 73 points, 22 from the individual points and 51 from the group points.
On the other hand, CRSHS, from La Trinidad, anchored their performance on a dominant victory in the Filipino category with a total of 94 points, 56 from the individual points and 38 from the group points. They finished sixth in the English category with a total of 64 points, 32 each in the individual and group points, to complete their card.
The Benguet National High School (BNHS), also from La Trinidad, finished second in the Filipino category to earn a total of 146 points, good for third place. Rounding up the top five schools are Saint Louis High School – Philex (SLHS) from Itogon at fourth and Alejo M. Paclaso Memorial National High School (AMPMNHS), also from Itogon, at fifth.
BNHS finished a close runner-up in the English division with 83 points and was fifth in the Filipino division with 63 points. SLHS-Philex was tied for fourth in Filipino category with 73 points while was solo fourth in the English category with 72 points for a total of 145. AMPMNHS was fifth in the English category with 66 points and seventh in the Filipino category with 61 points.
According to Francis F. Peckley, the English Educational Program Supervisor of the Department of Education, Benguet Division, the top five individual winners and the top ten school papers will be eligible to represent Benguet in the Regional Meet to be held in Lagawe, Ifugao on January next year.
Peckley said they were satisfied with the outcome of the event and will be ready to compete in the Regionals where they had been the winners for the last three years. “We were delighted to see a total of 2,033 coaches and participants, one of the highest we have seen, during the event. We will be conducting 1-day clinics for the winners in preparation for the Regionals.” he said.
