MANKAYAN, Benguet – Hundreds of barangay officials in the town’s twelve barangays were given their respective financial assistance from the Office of the President that was coursed through the municipal government during simple turnover rites held last Monday at the Lepanto Clubhouse.
The recipients of the financial assistance were punong barangays, kagawads, secretaries and treasurers who were elated upon being invited and handed the cash gift from the Office of the President that was followed up by Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Yap.
Mayor Frenzel A. Ayong stated that the distribution of the aforesaid financial assistance to the barangay officials is now on its second year after the same started last year but the recipients were limited.
In behalf of the barangay officials who received their financial assistance, Ayong expressed his gratitude to President Rodrigo Duterte for having conceptualized the grant of financial assistance to the barangay officials that will serve as an added incentive for their dedication to public service and to Congressman Yap for having personally followed up the matter with the Office of the President that facilitated the immediate release of the funds for the said purpose.
According to him, the surprise financial assistance to the barangay officials will serve as an inspiration and motivation to them to work extra hard in sustaining the delivery of genuine public service to their respective constituents.
Manakayan has 12 barangays where its 6 upland barangays are said to be the food basket of the municipality while the 6 lower barangays are considered the mining communities of the municipality.
Mayor Ayong commended the town’s barangay officials for their sustained dedication in serving their constituents amidst their limited compensation because what matters to tem is for their constituents to be satisfied of the services that they are getting from their elected municipal and barangay officials.
The mayor stipulated that the sacrifices done by the barangay officials during the prevailing various levels of community quarantine for nearly 10 months now to contain the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has been enormous and could not be provided with whatever monetary value.
He appealed to the barangay officials to continue extending quality services to their constituents amidst the pandemic because people are really longing for the services of their elected public servants for them to be able to recover from the serious negative effects of the health crisis that have heavily impacted on their living condition over the past several months.
Ayong asserted that in as far as the town’s barangay officials are concerned, the municipal always tries to extend whatever available assistance for them to be able to effectively and efficiently discharged their assigned duties and responsibilities for the greater welfare of the majority of the populace in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
