MANKAYAN, Benguet – The municipal government will work out the fabrication of wash stations to be set up in the different public schools in the municipality as part of their compliance to the established health protocols in time for the opening of classes by August.
Mayor Frenzel Ayong said that the municipal government is closely coordinating with local machine shops to have a uniform design for the wash stations to be distributed in time for the opening of classes as wash areas for pupils and students in the school.
He disclosed that the municipal government use the funds from the education department to fabricate the wash stations as part of the required health protocols to ensure health and sanitation in the said institutions once classes resume.
“We tapped established machine shops in the municipality to fabricate the wash stations as part of starting the economic activities in our municipal. We firmly believe that our local machine shops are equally competent to produce quality wash stations as they know these will be used by our younger brothers and sisters who are still going to school,” Mayor Ayong stressed.
The municipal chief executive claimed his administration will first patronize local machine shops to fabricate the wash stations as the municipal government’s counterpart for public schools to comply with the stringent health protocols to prevent the possible spread of the dreaded Corona Virus Disease (COVID) 2019 in the municipality.
Ayong stated the municipal government will closely coordinate with the different public schools on how to ensure the stable water supply for the operation of the wash stations with water tanks, among others, to guarantee cleanliness and orderliness in the operations of facilities once classes open.
According to him, economic activities and sources of livelihood of the people were heavily impacted by the implementation of the Luzonwide enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) thus the municipal government must spearhead the revival of the economy by supporting the operation of local businesses.
He underscored the importance of striking a balance in slowly bringing back the city economy and sustaining the gains of the government in preventing the occurrence of incidents that would have spread the deadly virus in the municipality as Mankayan remains COVID-free to date.
The municipal mayor asserted his government will continue to strictly implement the modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) guidelines to ensure the health and safety of the residents who adhered to the stringent rules during the ECQ and GCQ periods that allowed the whole province to be included as one of the MGCQ areas in the country.
Mankayan is both a mining and agricultural town where its upper barangays are considered to be vegetable producers while its lower barangays are the so-called mineral-rich areas that play host to the operation of large and small-scale mining operations.
