BAGUIO CITY – THE MASTERS bags their 2nd win in bracket “M’ of the YMCA Cup in last Wednesdays’ match up against the Life Savers’ at the YMCA gym here. Orchestrating the Masters’ game plan is Coach Erick Keith who, early on the first canto, has jelled his players with the right combinations to take the front seat all throughout the game posting a 43-36 score on the first half of play and 92-71 on the fourth canto to beat the Life Savers with 21 big points on the final quarter.
Top scorers for the Masters Benjie Lorente made 24 big points while Paul Publico lived shooting beyond the arc, made 21 points. Jun Urmaza contributed 12 points even as Rey Banco made 10 points. The other point contributors where Bernard Balmeo with 9, Rogelio Dela Rosa with 6, Mike Geloso and Jerry Bio had 4 points each, and Cornelio Deogracias 2 points.
On the other hand, Life Savers’ Joven Verin had 13, Fernando Calion made 12, Raffy Ayunon had 9, while Carlo Flores and Mark Barogue made 7 each. Norman Dagang and Jethro Antonio scored 6 each, Aries Garcia 5, Ralph Rillorta 4, and Wilfred Tuazon made 2.
Meanwhile, PROCOR made a hard chase over the PHANTOMS speed on their game last Friday, July 3, 2015 for a hard earned win, with the Phantoms controlling the first canto of play 24 – 17. However, experience versus speed has its toll as PROCOR chipped of the Phantoms lead on a 22-17 point blast during the second canto to grab the front seat and lead by 3, 39-36.
Gaining their composure on the third canto, the Phantoms manage to trim down PROCOR lead to just a point at the end of the third, 59-60, and took back the lead at the early minutes of the fourth canto, to force a deadlock on the dying seconds, 79-79, for an overtime.
With the ballgame tied at 94-94 at the dying seconds during overtime, Procors’ persistence, however, gave them the upper hand as Danilo Balog shoot one out of two from the line to add another two points. On the perimeter, Bong Encarnado also shoot one out of two on the line gave PROCOR a four point lead at the end of the overtime buzzer, 99 – 95.
