BAGUIO CITY – In his State of the City Address, Mayor Mauricio Domogan said that in the field of sports, the city’s commitment to develop world class athletic performance in various sporting events has borne good results.
“We now have a stable of excellent and home-grown athletes. For the record, we have 17 athletes who have represented the city and established their niche in the world arena of sports. Among them are Eduard Folayang and others,” he pointed out.
Domogan said Baguio athletes that make up 85% of the Cordillera team were adjudged as the best performing athletes in the recently-concluded Palarong Pambansa in Antique.
He added that Baguio and Benguet province are bidding to host next year’s Palarong Pambansa with the initial evaluation of facilities already done.
He said the city’s athletes rank first in Batang Pinoy for those 15 years old and below and second in the National Games for athletes 16 years old and above.
“The outstanding feat of our athletes deserves the city’s support,” the Mayor stressed.
Domogan said the city has increased the incentives of athletes from P2.5 million to P6.3 million as a “token of gratitude for excelling in their chosen field of sports as representatives of the city.” By: GABY KEITH
