BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan expressed the gratitude of the local government to the private sector-led Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio (HRAB) and other tourism industry stakeholders for spearheading the presentation and serving of the Largest Wedding Cake at the SM City Baguio Atrium last Saturday where thousands of residents and visitors alike tasted assorted flavors of the cake.
The local chief executive underscored HRAB and other local tourism industry stakeholders had been aggressive in discovering new attractions annually to encourage more people to visit the city and enjoy the festive mood during this time of the year.
“We are grateful to the HRAB and its partners for sustaining their unwavering commitment in aggressively promoting Baguio city as a preferred tourist destination even during the most difficult times thus contributing in the sustained growth of the local tourism industry,” Domogan stressed.
The 14-ton 4-layered cake had 4 flavors, chocolate, vanilla, banana and carrot, with a dimension of 24 feet by 20 feet on the base, 20 feet by 16 feet on the second layer, 16 feet by 12 feet on the third layer and 8 feet by 12 feet on the fourth layer with a height of 24 feet.
The cake was made up of 700 kilos of salted and unsalted butter, 800 kilos of sugar, 18,000 pieces of fresh eggs, 150 cans of evaporated milk, 30 sacks of all-purpose flour, 20 sacks of cake flour, 10 kilos of wall nuts, 10 kilos baking powder, 10 kilos of baking soda, 50 kilos cocoa powder, 18 kilos of ricoa powder, 25,000 pieces of banana, 500 kilos carrots, 10 cans of corn oil and 1,500 litters of whipped cream topping.
HRAB officials declared the total cost of the ingredients of the Largest Wedding Cake at P800,000 excluding the labor of those who painstaking worked double time to ensure that the cake will be made available in time for its presentation and serving to the public.
The first layer of the cake was served to the general public who patiently waited and fell in line at the SM City Baguio, the second layer was segregated and distributed to the calamity victims and rescuers of the tragic Itogon landslide incident, the third layer was served to the 43 newly wed couples, their family members and clients of the City Social Welfare and Development office while the fourth layer was served to the volunteers who prepared the cake and to the personnel of SM City Baguio.
HRAB president Anthony de Leon underscored the presentation and serving of the cake was not done to aspire for the establishment of a record but to help in aggressively promoting Baguio City as a resilient local government and a preferred tourist destination to help sustain the development of the local tourism industry.
HRAB has been known for the presentation and serving of the Longest Raisin Bread, Longest Baguio Longaniza, Largest Pizza, Rise and Shine, Largest Wedding Cake, among others, that helped entice foreign and domestic visitors to visit the city.
De Leon expressed the group’s gratitude to all its partners and sponsors who contributed for the successful presentation and serving of the Largest Wedding Cake to the public.
