TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Mayor Darwin Estrañero expressed his full support for the Tabuk City National High School (TCNHS) Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) during the organization’s First General Assembly held at the school’s campus today, August 31.
Emphasizing the importance of collaboration between local government and educational institutions, Estrañero highlighted the pivotal role of the PTA in enhancing the quality of education and pledging his administration’s commitment to addressing the needs of students and teachers, promising to support various school projects and initiatives aimed at improving the learning environment.
During the assembly, Estrañero also voiced his concern over the alarming rise in vehicular accidents in the city, with 95% involving motorcycles. He noted that Tabuk now ranks second in the region for vehicular accidents this year, following Baguio City. In just the second quarter of 2024, over 200 incidents were recorded in this city alone.
The mayor pointed out the increasing trend of parents purchasing motorcycles for their children and urged them to consider the legal requirements for owning and operating such vehicles. He stressed the importance of parents understanding the Land Transportation Office (LTO) guidelines regarding driver’s licenses, reminding them that a student license does not permit one to drive a motor vehicle.
In response to this growing issue, Estrañero announced plans for the city government to organize a safety driving seminar for teenagers. This initiative aims to provide proper and defensive driving information, with the goal of preventing or reducing vehicular accidents involving minors.
The PTA expressed gratitude for the mayor’s commitment to both education and public safety, viewing his support as a positive force for the community. This partnership is expected to bring significant benefits to TCNHS students and contribute to the overall safety and well-being of the city’s youth. By Jessie Magguiya
