With the aim of reviving the relationship of the municipality of Buguias and Narvacan, the mayors of the two municipalities signed the sisterhood agreement at Loo, Buguias on March 7.
Attorney Pablito Sanidad Sr., municipal mayor of Narvacan, Ilocos Sur stated that the Ilokano and Igorots are not different from each and has been helping each other.
“You came down to trade with us, you got our salt, you got a lot of skills and talents from the lowlanders in the same manner that we got what need from you, like your products, specifically your gold” Sanidad said.
He also commended Buguias for being a first-class municipality and was the only municipality in Benguet that was added to the list of first-class municipalities in January.
“Baga-bagay na unay nga agsisters ti Narvacan ken Buguias ta pareho nga iti January, Narvacan after 30 long years also became a first-class municipality, this is therefore a celebration of the sisterhood relationship between two first-class municipality” (Buguias and Narvacan are fitted to become sisters as they are both first-class municipalities because after 30 long years, Narvacan became a first-class municipality, therefore this is a celebration of the sisterhood relationship between two first-class municipality) Sanidad enthused.
He also shared that 27 years ago he defended then municipality of Buguias and that proves that there has been a connection between the highlanders and lowlanders.
Ruben Tinda-an, municipal mayor of Buguias also shared that when he visited Narvacan, he met his fellow Igorots.
“Puro kakailyan met nga igorot, wada di taga Poblacion ay kailyan takos di and that gave us the idea nu mabalin nga we have a sisterhood and this is the product of that agreement ta nu umay kayo ed Narvacan ibagayu a kasister di Buguias na isunga atleast mabalin kayo ay umey sidi, maki-asawa pay nu kayat yu” (There are lot of fellow Igorots there from Poblacion and that gave us the idea to have a sisterhood agreement so that if you go to Narvacan, you will say that that this is a sister of Buguias so at least you can visit there and even get married) Tinda-an said.
Tinda-an also stated that it is nice building relationship with the lowlands and believes that through the sisterhood agreement, the relationship that the two municipalities had will be revived. By Rhealyn Charwin
