TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The 2nd Quarter Smart and Sustainable Community Project (SSCP) Meeting was held on May 16 at the R&D Building, Kalinga State University (KSU), Bulanao Campus.
The meeting brought together representatives from Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO) Kalinga, City Public Information Office, Kalinga State University, Department of Information, Communications Technology (DICT)-Kalinga, Department of Interior and Local Government – Kalinga, and Globe Telecom.
Provincial Director Jasmin Donaal of PSTO Kalinga emphasized the significance of the gathering in aligning activities and strengthening coordination among participating agencies.
She provided an overview of the roles and functions of various Department of Science and Technology offices to foster a clearer understanding of their programs and services.
The meeting agenda included the formation of the Technical Working Group (TWG), the City Local SSCP Council, and the scheduling of the upcoming STI Plan Workshop.
Participants discussed their respective roles in collaborative STI projects and reviewed the 2024 Work and Financial Plan.
Updates were shared on the progress of the 2nd Quarter Project Implementation, including the status of realignment efforts and preparations for the upcoming SSCP Forum.
A vital discussion point was the institutionalization of the SSCP Council to improve program alignment and organizational efficiency.
City Information Officer Aurora Amilig advocated for a targeted approach, recommending that projects be implemented sequentially to better assess their impact.
She highlighted “smart agriculture” as a priority for Tabuk City, given the potential benefits for local farmers through technological support.
Karen Duyan from KSU presented a proposal for a 360° Virtual Tourism Project, designed to showcase Tabuk’s tourist destinations through immersive virtual experiences of local culture, cuisine, and attractions.
Monaliza Vizcarra from DICT Kalinga shared updates on the deployment of Starlink internet services across the province and encouraged stakeholders to collaborate with their office for inclusion in future connectivity initiatives.
Representatives from Globe Telecom reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing internet accessibility, announcing their ongoing promotion of unlimited internet plans at affordable rates.
They also offered to provide promotional materials such as tarpaulins for local tourism sites.
KSU students demonstrated an Emergency Response Application aimed at tracking and reporting crime incidents, thereby improving local emergency response systems.
Additionally, Eric Paloy from the R&D Department of KSU emphasized the university’s dedication to research and innovation, urging funding agencies to support initiatives that could generate wider community benefits.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with a shared commitment among all stakeholders to strengthen partnerships, implement impactful programs, and promote sustainable community development. By Ian Addatu
