BAGUIO CITY – A pocket miner died after he sustained fatal injuries when he accidentally fell off the O-shaped overpass along the junction of Harrison Road and Abanao St. at around 11:5 pm Saturday.
Senior Superintendent Rolando F. Miranda, officer-in-charge of the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO), identified the victim as Ariel Bannagao Battawang, a pocket miner, who hails from Kalinga but presently resides at Crusta; Cave, Bakakeng Central, Baguio City.
Initial police investigation showed the victim, together with his companions, had a drinking spree and after which, they decided to stand by at the O-shaped overpass.
After a few minutes, the victim reportedly went down at the stairs of the said structure leading to the basement of the Maharlika Livelihood Center.
His colleagues though that the victim will go home alone, thus, they simply look at him until they lost sight of him.
Unknowingly, the victim reportedly lost his balance while going down the stairs and reportedly fell banging his head on the staircase and the pavement causing him to sustain major head and body injuries.
His companions reportedly went down the structure but they were not able to see the victim, thus, he decided to go home alone.
Upon inquiry from their neighbors on the whereabouts of the victim, he found out that he was not in their house promoting him to contact his mobile phone number and to their surprise, he was already in the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC).
Because of the major head and body injuries that he sustained, the victim reportedly expired at around 12:30 am Sunday.
Probers are still ascertaining if there was a foul play in the victim’s accidental fall from the overpass.
