ITOGON, Benguet – A 32-year old miner was hurt after he was repeatedly hacked by a fellw miner for still unknown reasons inside his shanty at sitio Muyot, barangay Gumatdang here Monday night.
Superintendent Cherry Fjardo, public information officer of the Police Regional Office (PRO) in the Cordillera, identified the victim as Venancio Campila Aluking, 32, married, miner, a native of Rizal, Kalinga, and presently residing in Sikaran, Gumatdang, Itogon, Benguet while she named the suspect as Manuel Corestino Wallang, 42, single, miner, a native resident of the place of incident.
Initial police investigation showed the victim was watching television inside his shanty when the suspect, who was armed with a bolo, suddenly arrived and entered the shanty, then hacked the victim several times.
Responding police operatives immediately rushed the victim to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) for the treatment of the wounds on his hands as he was able to parry the bolo used by the suspect.
With the help of concerned citizens, the suspect was arrested and now detained at the Itogon Municipal Police Station awaiting the filing of appropriate charges against him before the Benguet provincial prosecutor’s office.
