BUGUIAS, Benguet March 14 – A 16-year old Grade 10 student died after he was bumped by a speeding Abatan-bound vehicle along the Halsema highway, particularly at Sinipsip, Amgaleygey, here, Monday night.
Chief Inspector Peter Dapliyan, chief of the Buguias Municipal Police Station, identified the fatality as Yawi Martinez Mariano, 16, grade 10 student and a resident of Sinipsip, Amgaleygey, Buguias, Benguet while the involved driver was named as by Nolly Lingling Esiong 33, married, farmer and a resident of Madaymen, Kibungan Benguet.
Initial police investigation showed that the suspect’s vehicle was proceeding towards Abatan in high speed when it suddenly swerved and occupied the other lane causing it to bump the victim who was crossing the road that resulted to his being thrown several meters away from the crime scene.
The vehicle continued to move forward until it rammed into an electric post that forced it to stop with heavy damages on its bumper and head lights.
The victim was rushed by concerned residents to the Lutheran District Hospital in Abatan for medical treatment but the student died while undergoing medical treatment due to multiple head and body injuries.
