LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. will continue serving the Boy Scout of the Philippines (BSP) Ilocos Region as Regional Chairman as he vowed to promote the scouting movement as the most-progressive extra-curricular organization for young people.
Governor Espino was unanimously re-elected in the top post during the election of BSP regional officers held recently at the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), here.
The election formed part of the regional scout committee meeting that was attended by BSP regional officers, council scout executives, council chairmen and council commissioners of six scouting councils in Region 1.
In his regional operations report, Governor Espino recognized the efforts exerted by BSP regional officers and members in making 2014 another colorful scouting year for Ilocos Region.
“We foresee better and more vibrant Boy Scouting Movement, more scout membership, more boys joining the movement, better scouting programs, more visible community services and active stakeholders’ participation,” Governor Espino stated in his message read by Executive Assistant IV Ramon Morden.
Morden, BSP Regional Commissioner for Public Relations, conveyed that Governor Espino is elated on the overwhelming comments received by the provincial government with its hosting of the 6th National Scout Venture Camp on May 5-10 last year that was graced by Vice President C. Jejomar Binay, BSP National President.
“What is elevating is that all those who attended the venture camp lauded the distinct hospitality of Pangasinenses, the best campsite at the Capitol beachfront and amenities of the host province,” Morden stressed.
Morden also disclosed Governor Espino’s plan to bid for the hosting of the 16th Annual Council Meeting of BSP next year. The regional council meeting, he added, will be held in Pangasinan next year.
With the support of the provincial government, the BSP Regional Office building will soon rise beside the BSP Pangasinan-San Carlos City Council building located at Maramba Boulevard in Lingayen.
Regional Scout Director Imelda Samson said that BSP Ilocos Region constantly performs well in the past three years since 2012, noting in her report that the big membership in the region for 2014 with 150, 949 members including boy, senior, kid and rover scouts clearly indicates the growing phase of the organization.
The BSP membership for 2014 accounts 32.91 percent of the region’s potential of 384,986 and 135.99 percent of the region’s 2014 membership goal of 111, 000.
Dr. Maria Cecilia Fernandez, newly-installed Schools Division Superintendent (SDS) of Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Pangasinan 1, was elected as BSP Regional Vice Chairman.
Fernandez succeeded the position vacated by Dr. Alma Ruby Torio, former SDS of DepEd Pangasinan 1, who has accepted work assignment as Assistant Regional Director in DepEd Region 2.
The region is composed of six councils namely: Dagupan City, Eastern Pangasinan, Ilocos Norte – Laoag City, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan – San Carlos City.
