BONTOC, Mountain Province – The five-day training on mass casualty incident (MCI) management for the members of the different Health Emergency Response Team (ERT) in CAR was launched at the Archog Hotel Conference Hall, Samoki, Bontoc, Mountain Province on June 16, 2025.
The training, which will run until June 20, 2025, was initiated through the collective effort of the Department of Health – Center for Health Development – Cordillera Administrative Region (DOH-CHD-CAR) through its Health Emergency Management Unit, the Provincial Health Office (PHO), and various medical centers in the country.
According to the PHO, the conduct of the training is geared towards the attainment of the Universal Health Care Act’s emphasis on the need to institutionalize a functional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management for Health towards a resilient health system.
The training is composed of six modules titled, Mass Casualty Management Framework (Module I), Incident Command System (Module II), Critical Incident Management (Module III), Communications (Module IV), Triage, Treatment, and Transport (Module V), and The Hospital in Mass Casualty Management (Module VI).
The first day concluded with the discussion of modules one and two, which were discussed by Nurse III Christopher Ceasar C. Gonzales from Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center, Nurse II Karl Niko C. Costales from Region II Trauma and Medical Center, Training Specialist Il and Acting DRRM-H Manager Marion Anthony Q. Palencia from the Philippine Heart Center, and Physical Therapist I Sharmaine Aura M. Lago from Eastern Visayas Medical Center.
The remaining modules will be discussed on the following days by the aforementioned lecturers, along with other lecturers: Nurse II Reina Lara Mae C. Bringas from Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center, Supervising Health Program Officer Jethro I. Simeon from the Health Emergency Management Unit of DOH-CHD-CAR, and Medical Officer IV Ma. Ivy D. Lozada also from Eastern Visayas Medical Center.
Meanwhile, integration exercises such as single triage exercises, tabletop exercises, compartmentalized exercises, and field exercises, among others, are expected to be conducted to reinforce the concepts and strategies that were covered in the modules. By MP-PIO
