BONTOC, Mountain Province – As part of the Provincial Livestock and Poultry Month celebration, the provincial government, through its Provincial Veterinary Office, conducted a poster-making contest for grades 5 and 6 elementary students representing the different schools in the central barangays of Bontoc on October 29, 2024.
The activity revolved around the theme, “Masaganang Paghahayupan Tungo sa Bagong Pilipinas.”
According to Provincial Veterinarian Rodelio B. Bagawi, the contest aims to showcase the creativity of the participants by expressing themselves and help in further developing their skills. He said that the activity will further promote awareness among the participants on the livestock and poultry program of the government and at the same time, will help them express their ideas and understanding on the theme of the celebration.
During the opening program, the students were joined by Executive Assistant Ernesto B. Bondad representing Gov. Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr. and Chantal Santowen, representing Board Member Ezra Samson A. Gomez, to express the two officials’ support to the contest.
They underscored that such activity will further improve the understanding of youngsters on the significance of agriculture or farming as a way of life.
Meanwhile, the criteria of the contest are adherence to the theme (40%); visual impact (30%); neatness of work (10%); uniqueness/ style of work (10%); and finished work within allotted time (10%).
The participating schools were the All Saints Mission School of Mountain Province, Inc., Bontoc Central School, Samoki Elementary School, Ut-utan Elementary School and Mountain Province Special Education.
The judges for the contest were Ligaya A. Poled, a retired government employee from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, Bendahara Beau K. Macliing of the Provincial Information Office, and Jennifer N. Mendoza of the Mountain Province Polytechnic University.
As a result, the Mountain Province Special Education was the first placers for both grades 5 and 6 while the All Saints Mission School of Mountain Province were adjudged as second placers for both grades 5 and 6. In third place were Samoki Elementary School for grade 5 and the Ut-utan Elementary School for grade 6.
The provincial government will be giving a cash prize of PhP4,000 each to the first placers while the second placers will receive a cash prize of PhP3,000 each. The third placers will also receive PhP2,000 each while the other participants will receive a consolation of PhP1,000 each. By Hail, MP
