BAGUIO CITY – A farmers cooperative and association (FCA) in Paracelis, Mountain Province has been granted a PhP5-million peso financial support from the Department of Agriculture Cordillera (DA-CAR) under the Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) program after satisfactory complying with the projects requirements.
Pedro Pinos-an, Mountain Province Agriculture Program Coordinating Office (MP-APCO) explained that under the program, DA-CAR will assist the Bugnay-Pacak Farmers Association Incorporated upon request for the preparation, planning, implementation, and supervision of the project specifically managing the funds for the construction of the bio-secure facility and procurement of necessary equipment following the formal blessing and turn-over ceremony in Paracelis on December 19, 2024.
“Under the INSPIRE program, the Bugnay-Pacak Farmers Association Incorporated was granted a 5 million pesos funding coverage by DA-CAR consisting of the construction of Conventional Type Animal House inclusive of perimeter fence and basic farm equipment amounting to 3.1 million pesos, the procurement of 100 heads of piglets having a live weight of 15 to 20 kilograms amounting to 800,000 pesos, feeds worth 1 million pesos, and disinfectants, test kits and others amounting to 60,000 pesos,” Pinos-an said.
For its part, the local government unit (LGU) will provide necessary technical support to the FCA in preparation and implementation of the projects including the designation of a technical staff to support the FCA.
The INSPIRE program also focuses on the role of the LGU and various stakeholders of the industry such that the institutional arrangement in the implementation of its components involves DA through the Regional Field Office and other implementing units of the National Livestock Program.
The Bugnay-Pacak Farmers Association Incorporated successfully passed the application process from the submission and review of documents, on-site evaluation, compliance with local requirements, preparation and signing of the memorandum of agreement, fund transfer, implementation, and liquidation mechanism.
The INSPIRE program is a continuing commitment of the DA-CAR to effectively and efficiently provide quality agricultural production inputs and their related support services aligned with the regional and national priorities particularly showing the response of the agency to the needs of the highland communities.
