BONTOC, Mountain Province – Mountain Province (MP) was one with the whole nation in paying honor and tribute to Dr. Jose P. Rizal in commemoration of his 128th death anniversary on December 30, 2024.
The commemorative program started with the laying of wreaths led by Provincial Administrator John K. Likigan, representing Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr.; Vice Governor Francis O. Tauli; Family Court Presiding Judge Gaslito A. Dumpayan; and Guest of Honor and Speaker Police Lieutenant Colonel Roy T. Awisan, MP Police Provincial Office Chief of the Provincial Investigation and Detection Management, representing MP Provincial Police Office (MPPPO) Provincial Director, Police Colonel Ferdinand N. Oydoc.
The wreath-laying was immediately followed by the firing of three volleys, playing taps by the uniformed personnel of the MPPPO, and the delivery of a message from PLtCol Awisan.
In his message, Awisan put into highlight how Rizal was able to leave an enduring inspiration to many Filipinos to fight for independence through his writing and courage.
“He (Rizal) exemplified the spirit of intellectualism, courage, and unwavering patriotism, showing us the power of truth and the importance of standing up for what is right,” he continued.
Relative to acts of heroism, Awisan encouraged the attendees to share Rizal’s commemoration with the local heroes of MP, who have also showed great deal of heroism, patriotism, and love for the province and the country as a whole.
“Beyond the grand narratives of national heroes, true heroism also thrives in the quiet corners of our communities. In MP, we honor the unsung heroes who have shaped our identity: our ancestors who fiercely defended our land, our elders who tirelessly safeguard our rich culture and traditions, our teachers who ignite the minds of future generations, and our community leaders who selflessly serve their people.
These unsung heroes, though their names may not be etched in national history books, are the true pillars of our province. Their courage, dedication, and resilience are the foundation upon which we build a brighter future for Mt. Province,” Awisan said.
Subsequently, after the program, the Bontoc Masonic Lodge #140 and the Order of DeMolay-Bontoc Ato Chapter #55 also laid their wreaths in honor of Rizal. By Hail, MP
