BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Mountain Province Shotokan Karate Club, an affiliate of Shin-Shin Karatedo Inc., secured 5 gold, 8 silver, and 4 bronze medals at the 2nd Elinon Karatedo Academy (EKA) Karatedo Championships held on October 13, 2024, at Robinson’s Mall, Las Piñas City.
Four athletes and their playing coach represented the Municipality of Bontoc and the entire province and competed against over 1,200 participants from 37 teams.
Denise Avery Paredes led the team, winning three gold medals in the 8-9 females intermediate, advanced, and open kata categories. She also earned a silver in the intermediate kumite and a bronze in the open kumite.
Further, Rhassel Ted Aldea won gold in the 12-13 males open kata and silver in the intermediate kumite while Kastielle Clementeen Patingan took silver in the 12-13 females kumite, bronze in the advanced kata, and bronze in the open kata.
Meanwhile, Alchemist Gleyn P. Mader-an added two silver medals in the 8-9 males advanced kata and intermediate kumite, along with a bronze in the open kumite.
Paredes, Aldea, and Patingan earned a silver medal in the 13-15 Open Team Kata. Club instructor and coach Atty. Alsannyster Patingan brought home gold in the Master’s Kata category. By Christy Mae C. Pangesfan
