BONTOC, Mountain Province – Mountain Province (MP) welcomed the month of July with the kick-off of the month-long Police Community Relations (PCR) Month during the first Monday Program for July at the Provincial Plaza on July 1, 2024.
The celebration of the PCR Month, as explained by Provincial NAPOLCOM Officer, Atty. Agosto C. Libang, is pursuant to Presidential Proclamation 764 signed by then President, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in 2005. This Presidential Proclamation amended the Presidential Proclamation 783 signed by then President Fidel V. Ramos, changing the celebration of the PCR Month from January to July.
This year’s PCR Month celebration carries the theme, “Ligtas ka sa Bagong Pilipinas.”
According to Mountain Province Police Provincial Office (MPPPO) Provincial Director, Police Colonel, Sibly P. Dawiguey, Jr., the theme highlights the Philippine National Police and the community’s shared dream of securing the safety of all Filipinos. In addition, Dawiguey emphasized that maintaining peace and safety in the community is not just a shared dream between the law enforcements, the local government units and the community members, but it is also their shared responsibility where everyone plays a crucial part.
Relative to safety, Dawiguey gave an update on the total crime incident (TCI) of MP for the first semester (January-June) of 2024. He informed that there was a decrease of 42.5% in the TCI of MP from the first quarter of 2024 compared to the first quarter of 2023. The TCI record went down from 87 during the first semester of 2023 to 50 during the first semester of this year.
One of the major highlights of the PCR Month celebration is the selection of the Best Police Provincial Office and the Best Municipal Police Office. According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Jimmy K. Macues, the MPPPO is hopeful to defend, this year, its title as the Best Police Provincial Office for Best Community Relations after being accorded the said award last 2023.
In closing, Provincial Administrator Franklin C. Odsey commended the MPPPO for hosting the PCR Month celebration and the first Monday program, together with the Department of Interior and Local Government–MP and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology–MP District Jail. By HENT
