BONTOC, Mountain Province – Over 350 barangay health workers (BHWs) from the municipalities of Barlig, Bontoc, Sabangan, and Sadanga received their 2,500-peso cash incentives from the provincial government during the 14th Provincial Barangay Health Workers Summit on March 17, 2025.
The summit was held at Governor Leonard G. Mayaen Sports Center with the theme, “Nan Barangay Health Workers, Napudno ay Mangisakit, Naimpusuan ay Mangipafikhas sinan Ili.”
The cash incentive to BHWs is an initiative under the Barangay Muna Program of Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr. which aims to recognize and reward the essential contributions of BHWs to public health in their respective barangays.
The summit was graced with the presence of local officials of Mountain Province led were Governor Lacwasan with Congress representative Maximo Y. Dalog, Jr. represented by Wabilyn Lomong-oy, Vice Governor Francis O. Tauli, Board Members Joshua B. Fronda, Ricardo M. Masidong, Jr., and Henry D. Bastian, Jr., and Bontoc Mayor Jerome B. Tudlong, Jr. They were one in offering their salute to all the BHWs in the province and greeting them a “Happy Women’s Month.”
As explained by the Governor, the incentive per BHW was raised from 2,000 pesos last year to 2,500 pesos this year. Lacwasan said that the 500-peso increase is a result of the combined effort and unity of the executive and legislative bodies of the provincial government.
In addition to the cash incentives, the BHWs also received their one-year insurance card from the Philippine Red Cross (PRC). According to the PRC-Mountain Province Chapter, the BHWs can use their insurance card in the event of unfortunate accidents, except vehicular accidents.
Meanwhile, the second to fourth leg of the summit will pursue to the other municipalities of Mountain Province on the following dates: March 19, 2025 – Sagada and Besao at the Sagada Municipal Hall; March 21, 2025 – Bauko and Tadian at the Bauko Municipal Open Gym; and March 25, 2025 – Paracelis at the Paracelis Municipal Hall.
