BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Mountain Province Environment and Natural Resources Office (MPENRO) headed by Atty. Raul I. Edan, the officer-in-charge, proudly announced an outstanding achievement in seedling production, surpassing the target by 28.66% in today’s Monday program.
Edan said that the provincial nurseries of the provincial government have successfully produced a total of 115,793 various seedlings, exceeding the initial target of 90,000. Out of these, 37,581 seedlings have been allocated for tree-planting activities by various offices. Additionally, as of May 2024, 18 tree-planting events have already been carried out. With these, Edan urged offices that have yet to organize their tree-planting activities to schedule the event promptly to avoid potential seedling shortages by the end of the year.
Furthermore, Edan highlighted the importance of proper waste segregation by reporting that 954.85 kilograms of garbage were collected from different offices of the Provincial Government in January 2024. He emphasized the significance of upholding waste segregation practices to assist the MPENRO in effective solid waste management.
Further still, Edan shared that the provincial government, through the Provincial Mining Regulatory Board, has granted 15 sand and gravel quarry permits to qualified individuals and one mining permit to a small-scale miners association in Sagada.
Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr. expressed his gratitude to the MPENRO for their dedication in managing the provincial government nurseries located in Paracelis, Bauko, Natonin, Bontoc, and other areas. He highlighted that the distribution of nurseries across different municipalities provides an opportunity for provincial government personnel to visit and engage with various communities.
Governor Lacwasan also reminded everyone about the upcoming Cordillera Month celebration in July, emphasizing the importance of a thorough preparation for the event. “We are gearing up for the Cordillera Month and Cordillera Day this July 15. It is essential that we prepare well,” he stated. By HENT
