PUERTO PRINCESA, Palawan – Mountain Province’s Team D’Phenomenon shone in the Muay Thai combat sports during the 2024 Philippine National Batang Pinoy Youth Games in Puerto Princesa Palawan.
Jason L. Co and Rheigne E. Falluyan secured two gold medals in their respective weight category. Co defeated his opponent from Ilocos Norte in the under 60 Kgs. weight category to secure the first gold medal for Mountain Province in the combat sport, while Falluyan triumphed over his opponent in the final round in the under 67 Kgs. weight category
Arnel A. Tangilag defeated his opponents from Baguio City and Benguet to reach the championship round in the under 63.5 Kgs. Category, however, he fell short in points against his opponent from General Santos City, thus securing him the silver medal.
Moreover, other martial artists from the team also fought valiantly, securing three bronze medals. Marwin G. Ronquillo, Jordan Ace Fagyan, and Jaxen Alfredo Sagsako each bagged one bronze medal in their respective weight class.
Meanwhile, Kane Maki Bagawi, Tychecus O. Caasi and Charles Malafu gave their best to move past the first round but fell short in the elimination rounds via points.
According to the team’s coach, Darwin P. Padchonga, the team proved that they could compete against the best fighters in the country.
Team D’Phenomenon has been producing promising young athletes in Muay Thai, as evidenced by the team’s performance in the latest competition. Martial artists from the team were also able to bring home medals during last year’s 2023 Muay Thai National Championships and the 2023 Philippine Muay Thai Youth Games.
