TABUK CITY, Kalinga – At least 16 former drug users from Barangay Nambaran started their community-based drug rehabilitation program (CBDRP) for this year to allow them to be immersed back with the mainstream society and live normal lives.
PCapt. Ruben Balanoy of the Tabuk City Police Station (TCPS) said that the program, with support of the barangay, city government, religious sectors and non-government organizations is a holistic process that incorporates prevention and treatment to help drug surrenderees recover from the effects of the use of illegal drugs.
The CBDRP involves 12 sessions which the participants must complete in order for them to graduate from the program and have their names cleared from the list.
For this first session, the participants were given discussions on the overview of the program from PSMS Ford Wassig, and God’s love from Ptr. Ernesto Comia-as Jr. of the Victory in Jesus Mt. Calvary Church.
According to PSSG Christina Gumilab, Nambaran records 131 drug surrenderees since the Tokhang operations in 2016, and 41 of them already graduated from the CBDRP but are still monitored through home visitation to ensure they do not go back to using prohibited drugs and spare them from the dangers of drug use.
Aside from the CBDRP, the TCPS is also conducting a Recovery Wellness Program to 30 former drug individuals from this city.
Same program will also be given to other barangays, but for this year, the TCPS decided to give it first to Nambaran since they logged the highest number of drug surrenderees.
