CONNER, Apayao – The National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP) together with the support of the Local Government Unit of Conner headed by Mayor Atty. Jorico F. Bayaua conducted a General Assembly to discuss the 10 MegaWatts Nabuangan Run-of-River Hydroelectric Power Project by Strategic Power Development Corp (SPDC), a subsidiary of San Miguel Corporation before the Local Officials, Nabuangan Elders, IPs and Communities at Barangay Ripang Gymnasium, Conner, Apayao.
The SPDC Team discussed that hydroelectric power is a renewable source of energy that generates power by using a dam or diversion structure to alter the natural flow of a river or other body of water. They also presented a digital real time scenario of the hydroelectric power at Nabuangan.
During the meeting, Mayor Atty. Bayaua vows for the Municipality of Conner’s water and power security in support to the widespread of power outages we are experiencing at the moment. In his message, he said that this project will boost the economy while preserving the environment. Furthermore, he also gave emphasis that Conner will be the priority on the process of hydroelectric power distribution.
The said assembly was facilitated by the NCIP Legal Affairs Officer Atty. Geoffry Calderon and a public forum was also administered to address the issues and concerns of the participants. By LGU Conner PIO
