City officials recently congratulated the Rt. Rev. Nestor D. Poltic for being elected as the 8th Prime Bishop of the Episcopal Church in the Philippines.
Under Resolution No. 346, series of 2024, local legislators stated that the Rt. Rev. Poltic is known for his leadership, vision and unwavering commitment to the spiritual and social wellbeing of the community.
In the election during the 12th Episcopal Church Synod at the Cathedral of St. Mary and St. John in Quezon City, the Rt. Rev. Poltic was elected as the new Prime Bishop of the Episcopal Church in the Philippines.
Bishop Anthony Poggo, the Secretary-General of the Worldwide Anglican Communion, made the official announcement of the election of the Rt. Rev. Poltic as the new Prime Bishop of the Episcopal Church in the Philippines.
Poltic has faithfully served as the 3rd Diocesan Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of North Central Philippines since May 1, 2018, following his consecration and installation at the Cathedral of the Resurrection in the city.
Poltic was born on October 27, 1967 and raised in Cabilisan, Pudong, Kapangan, Benguet. He is the third among eight children of the late Mario Balliw Poltic and Alicia Dagas Kuan Hen.
He received his Bachelor’s degree in Theology from the St. Andrew’s Theological Seminary in 1991 and his Master5’s in Biblical Studies from the Ecumenical Theological Seminary in Baguio in 2009
Poltic began his full time church ministry as an intern at St. Gregory Church in Loo, Buguias, Benguet in 1991 and was ordained Deacon on March 18, 1992 at St. Jude’s Parish in Bangao, Buguias, Benguet.
On June 3, 1993, he was ordained as a priest at the Ascension Church in Cabilisan, Pudong, Kapangan and subsequently served as rector of St. Jude’s aided parish from 1993 to 2006. He also served in various significant role, including rector of St. Philip clustered parish in Lubas, La Trinidad; rector and Dean of the Cathedral of the Resurrection in Baguio
And rector of Holy Guardian Angel parish in Pico, La Trinidad.
The other leadership roles within the church held by Politic were president of the Clericus from 2010-2015, chairman of the Commission on Ministry from 2003-2007, chairperson for the Commission on Children, Youth, and Student Ministry and chairperson of the Commission on Development and Social Concerns from 1999-2003. He became the chairman of the La Trinidad Ecumenical Council and was the previous vice chairman of the Baguio-Benguet Ecumenical Group from 2010-2015, a member of the Board of Directors of the EDNCP Credit Cooperative, and a Convenor of the said organization.
