TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Gawis Ay Gobgob received PhP394,000 livelihood grant from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)- Cordillera on November 12 as the new beneficiary association of the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP).
This SLP association consists of 23 members who agreed to venture on retailing automotive fuel as business.
Prior to receiving the grant, the Gawis Ay Gobgob had undergone training including organizational development, leadership, basic business management, and microenterprise development to fully capacitate the members and provide them with the essential skills to sustain the group and ably manage their projects.
Present during the awarding ceremony were partners from the DSWD-CAR and the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) who provided significant involvement in the completion of their approved project proposal.
Aida Bermillo, CSWD’s focal person on livelihood program, who has supported the group’s project since its planning stage, encouraged the group members to sustain their cooperation with each other to ensure the success and sustainability of their proposed enterprise.
The provision of seed capital to qualified associations in the city testifies to the strong relationship and connection between the DSWD and the city government in helping the beneficiaries get out of poverty and earn extra income through engaging in microenterprise, according to Aida Habawel of DSWD-CAR.
The DSWD-CAR reminds that SLP-funded projects are monitored regularly, and members are required to keep record of daily financial transactions to ensure transparency.
Through the SLP, the Department hopes to enhance the livelihood assets and improve the capabilities of the poor and marginalized sector by granting seed capital to support establishment and operation of their chosen business. By Darwin S. Serion
