BONTOC, Mountain Province – Newly elected barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials of this municipality are now equipped with the needed knowledge and skills in the performance of their mandated duties and responsibilities.
This, with the conduct of one-day “Basic Orientation for Newly Elected Barangay Officials” participated in by the Punong Barangay, Barangay Kagawad, SK Chairperson, Indigenous People Mandatory Representative (IPMR), Barangay Secretary and Barangay Treasurer from the 16 barangays of Bontoc on August 8, 2018.
Municipal Local Government Operations Officer (MLGOO) Jill F. Fa-ed of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) said that the orientation aims to prepare the barangay officials on the responsibilities that they are expected to perform as they assume their office; make the barangay government functional; and empower village officials to exercise good governance.
Bontoc Mayor Franklin C. Odsey in his message thanked the participants for responding to the invitation, adding that their presence in the orientation is a strong manifestation of their commitment to serve their constituents.
He likewise urged the barangay officials to focus on the lectures of the speakers and participate in the discussion as the orientation is an avenue for them to enrich their knowledge on the plans and programs which they can implement in their respective barangays.
Relative to this, Municipal Legal Officer Atty. Seichi Ofo-ob explained to the participants the Focus on Decentralization and Governance; MLGOO Jill F. Fa-ed emphasized the Roles and Functions of Barangay Officials; Municipal Environment Management Resources Officer Roger F. Agcapen talked about Solid Waste Management; Sangguniang Bayan member Atty. Alsannyster F. Patingan discussed Barangay Legislation; and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (MDRRM) Officer Johanna L. Padaen focused her lecture on Community Based DRMM Plan in every barangay.
The activity was initiated by the Bontoc Municipal Government in coordination with the DILG and Municipal Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) while the funding was sourced out from the MDRRM Fund.
Meanwhile, Fa-ed mentioned that a separate seminar-workshop on planning, budgeting, and financial administration to be participated again by the barangay officials will be scheduled. By Alpine L. Killa
