Nine Senior High School students of Tuba Central National High School (TCNHS) completed their 80 hours work immersion at the Baguio Animal Breeding Research Center (BABRC), one of the Research Stations of the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office Cordillera Administrative Region (DA-RFO CAR) gaining experiential insights of the real-world job.
The immersion was implemented for 10 days from January 7 to 20, 2025.
The Work Immersion Program is a prerequisite of the K to 12 Program of the Department of Education under the Senior High School (SHS) curriculum. It aims to establish a school-industry partnership that will provide the school the necessary expertise and venue for practical, on-the-job, and enterprise-based training for SHS learners to prepare them for employment and higher learning upon graduation.
During the exit conference on January 21, BABRC Officer-in-Charge Dr. Ofelia P. Ducayag emphasized their plans for upcoming apprentices to obtain National Certificates (NC II) after their immersion at BABRC. “Continue to partner with us and we might as well sit together and make a module in order to have a meaningful stay here in the Department of Agriculture and we look forward to having a national certificate II,” she said.
Dr. Ducayag further assured that the program is expected to continue with more students being given the opportunity to participate in future work immersion fostering deeper appreciation to the agricultural sector among the youth.
Throughout the training, the students were engaged in hands-on experiences in the operation of the BABRC. The practical exercises were complemented by lectures on field operations and agricultural techniques including coffee production, livestock management, and beekeeping provided by the BABRC employees.
“Thank you so much to the Department of Agriculture. I hope this program will continue for the upcoming generations in order to teach them what we have learned,” Gerby U. Tindaan, one of the apprentices, expressed.
The students received certificates from the DA-CAR, in recognition of their successful immersion in the agency. By Vincent G. Savella
