BAGUIO CITY – The |Cordillera office of the National Nutrition Council (NNC-CAR) will be honouring top performing individuals and local governments in the implementation of their various nutrition programs during the 2018 regional nutrition awards which will be held at the Hotel Supreme on October 4, 2018.
The NNC-CAR will be paying tribute to the national awardees from the region which are Alfonso Lista, Ifugao, a recipient of the National Honor Award (NHA); Baguio City for its Second Year Maintenance Award being a Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner on Nutrition (CROWN) and Tublay, Benguet fir its First Year CROWN Maintenance Award.
In the regional level, the awardees include Tublay, Benguet as the Most Outstanding Implementor on Nutrition, Municipal Level and Regional Green ?Banner Award; Benguet Province as the Regional Most Oustanding Implementor on Nutrition Provincial Level; Provincial Most Ounstading Implementor on Nutrition, Municipal Level or provincial Green Banner Award for Tublay, Benguet; Hungduan, Ifugao; Balbalan, Kalinga and Sagada, Mountain Province.
Imelda dela Cruz Dagupen of barangay Imelda Village, Baguio City was adjudged this year’s Most Oustanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) besting Divina S. Guilanda of Sagpat, Kibungan, Benguet; Maribel M. Bu-ucan of Poblacion East, Lamut, Ifugao; Florita P. Agulin of Gawaan, Balbalan, Kalinga and Guillerma D. Wagsingan of Tuga, Tabuk City, Kalinga.
NNC-CAR regional nutrition program coordinator said local government units with consistent decrease in stunting prevalence among 0-59 months pre-schoolchildren from 2015-2017 will also be recognized, particularly Ifugao, Baguio City, Danglas, Abra; Licuan-Baay, Abra; Manabu, Abra; Bokod, Benguet; Kabayan, Benguet; Mankayan, Benguet; Aguinaldo, Ifugao; Alfonso Lista, Ifugao; Hingyon, Ifugao; Tinoc, Ifugao and Bauko, Mountain Province.
Further, local government units with less than 10 percent stunting prevalence among 0-59 months pre-schoolchildren last year will also be recognized which includes Baguio City, Boliney, Abra; Danglas, Abra; Dolores, Abra; Lagangilang, Abra; La Paz, Abra; Manabu, Abra; San Quintin, Abra; Bokod, Benguet; Buguias, Benguet; Itogon, Benguet; Mankayan, Benguet; Sablan, Benguet, Tublay, Benguet; Alfonso Lista, Ifugap; Tinoc, Ifugao and Sagada, Mountain Province.
On the other hand, the Best Barangay Nutrition Committees by city or province are Lower Quirino Hill, Baguio City; Poblacion East, Lamut, Ifugao; and Gawaan, Balbalan, Kalinga.
The annual Regional Nutrition Awards is being spearheaded by the NNC-CAR to recognize the efforts of individuals and local governments who have consistently excelled in the implementation of appropriate nutrition programs to improve the nutritional status of people in the different parts of the region.
Papey urged all local government units regiowide to sustain and further endeavour to improve the implementation of their programmed nutrition activities to curb the proliferation of malnutrition among pre-schoolchildren and school aged children for them to become healthy individuals in the communities.
