BAGUIO CITY – The city government does not intend to put up a multilevel parking structure in Melvin Jones because the famous football field in the city will remain as such contrary to the black propaganda being done by the critics of the present administration to the planned put up of a parking facility within the area.
Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan said the creation of a technical working group (TWG) through an administrative order is not meant to fastrack the planned establishment of a parking facility in the area but it is meant to evaluate, assess and study the possibility of putting up the parking structure in order to address the parking concerns of the city, especially during weekends where there is an influx of visitors to the city.
“We want technical people to evaluate the feasibility of putting up a parking structure within the Ganza area and its opposite side while maintaining Melvin Jones as is. WE take exception to the misinformation being done by our critics that we are fastracking the put up of the parking facility,” Domogan stressed.
He lashed out at critics of the parking facility, saying that instead of cooperating with the local government to improve and enhance the planned parking area for motor vehicles, they tend to twist the information in the social media in order to advance their own personal and political interests as if they are the only ones who have the monopoly of good plans for the city.
According to him, the issue raised by environmentalists regarding the effect of the parking structure to the water table of the city will also be considered by the TWG in evaluating the feasibility of the put up of the parking structure, thus, if it will be found out that the parking facility will damage the water table, then the local government will not push through with it.
Domogan explained the primary purpose of the TWG composed of technical personnel from both the private and government sectors is to make the appropriate recommendations to the city government in order to guide decision makers on whether or not to approve the put up of the parking facility.
He cited the city government has always been open to suggestions and recommendations from the public on how to ease the worsening traffic congestions and address the lack of adequate parking areas but it seems critics of the present administration had opted to simply circulate false, malicious and baseless information through the social media just to discredit him and project themselves as the only ones who know how to love the city and protect its interests among others.
“It is unfair for our critics to simply spread false information through the social media. If they believe that their proposals are meritorious, then they must sit down with us to deliberate on it and if found feasible, we will be man enough to accept their recommendations, but if such proposals will be impossible to do, then we will have to shelve it for future references,” Domogan added.
The local chief executive also criticized those using the put up of the parking structure to advance their own political interests, saying that the May 2016 elections is still very far from reach but most city officials are now creating issues that will uplift their image and promote their political career even if the issues they are raising are baseless, untrue, unfounded and lacks legal basis to be considered as meritorious for deliberation.
