BONTOC, Mountain Province – Mayor Franklin C. Odsey solicited the support of the elected barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials in the realization of all the programs of the government.
This, following the peaceful and orderly conduct of Barangay and SK elections in the capital town on May 14, 2018.
Odsey emphasized barangay officials are in the frontlines in the implementation of all the government programs and in the delivery of the services to the constituents, they being based in their own communities and thus cognizant of the needs of their constituents.
He said that barangay officials were put in their positions by their own people as they believe in their capabilities in responding to the needs of their constituents.
“You are the ears and eyes of the community. Thus, I call for a harmonious alliance between the respective Punong Barangay, barangay kagawad, SK Chairperson and its council to ensure that government services to the constituents will not be hampered,” Odsey remarked.
He also highlighted the campaign slogan of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, “Iboto ang Matino, Mahusay at Maaasahan”, which every elected barangay officials must possess and uphold. These traits which call for good governance through honest, efficient and reliable public service.
“The municipal government looks forward in working with all the elected barangay and SK officials. You are our partners to ensure government services will reach and benefit our constituents. After all, we are all for the good of the people and the municipality as a whole,” he added.
Meanwhile, Odsey who administered the oath-taking of the elected SK officials in Bontoc on May 16, 2018 highlighted public service in the discharge of their duties and responsibilities.
With this, he challenged the SK officials to look into programs that will benefit the community especially the youth such as sports and anti-drug abuse activities.
“Sports do not only cater to the young people, but to adult too as it promotes health and wellness. Concentrate on this and other youth empowerment programs and you will have my support. Let us work as one for our Bontoc ay Kalalaychan,” Odsey stated.
The mayor also advised the SK officials to balance their time as a student and as a public servant.
“Remember that you were elected to serve. Public service means sacrifice, but it does not mean that you will lost focus, time and commitment in your studies. Education and public service must come hand in hand. You must graduate and finish a degree, and graduate as an honorable public official,” he remarked.
Prior to the oath-taking of the SK officials, they underwent the one-day SK mandatory training which was spearheaded by the DILG.
