TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Eighty individual farmers of three batches from barangays Cabaruan, Suyang, and Appas received training on mushroom cultivation from the Office for the City Agricultural Services (OfCAS) today.
By introducing oyster mushroom growing to small farm holder families and instructing them on the correct stages for mushroom cultivation, the program, according to Emma Concepcion Fermin, Senior Agriculturist of OfCAS, intends to train farmer-partners on mushroom production and business development.
The activity, which began in January 2022, offered the participants the possibility to pick up new useful skills they may use to support their families and themselves financially.
According to Concepcion, the OfCAS selected the trainees based on their areas of interest.
The training makes use of real-world examples of edible mushroom production and the ideal location for planting and cultivating them, Conception added.
The following subjects were covered in the training: mushroom cultivation, producing fruiting bags, mushroom growing conditions, pests and diseases, mushroom production and marketing, and mushroom harvesting, storage, and use.
According to the OfCAS, the city administration is offering to support farmer-partners in developing new skills that would enable them to earn more money and become more productive through this entrepreneurial activity.
