BAGUIO CITY – City officials recently requested the City Tourism and Special Events Division under the City Administrator’s Office, the City Planning and Development Office, the National Historical Commission (NHCP), the City General Services Office and other concerned agencies and offices to closely coordinate in the one-time conservation of identified historical markers in the city.
Under Resolution No. 733, series of 2023, local legislators stated that there are a total of 16 historical markers that are found in the different parts of the city which have been declared and installed by the NHCP at present.
The aforesaid historical markers include Philippine Commission’s First Session in Baguio; Philippine Military Academy (PMA), Baguio Teachers Camp, former site of PMA in Teachers Camp, Camp John Hay (CJH), Camp Henry T. Allen, Easter College, Dominican Hill and Retreat House, Casa Vallejo, United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP) Baguio, Baguio City hall, United States Embassy Residence –Baguio, Baguio Country Club (BCC), Brent School, Campo ng mga Guro–Teachers Camp and Mansion House.
The council also urged the NHCP to submit to the local legislative body an updated list of identified historical markers in the city.
Earlier, the council considered the matters and issues as well as suggestions that were raised during the December 4, 2023 regular session relative to the proposed ordinance introduced by Councilor Vladimir Cayabas that seeks to appropriate funds for the conservation of all historical markers in the city and the creation of the historical markers conservation working team, defining its functions and purpose.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the various offices as earlier identified for their information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action when warranted. By Dexter A. See
