MANKAYAN, Benguet – The operation of the common triage for northern Benguet in Barangay Natubleng, Buguias town has contributed in significantly reducing the movement of unauthorized persons outside their residences following the downgrading of the province’s status to medium risk modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) up to the end of the month.
Mayor Frenzel A. Ayong reported that since the operation of the common triage recently with the sudden surge in the number of confirmed Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the province, the movement of people in and out of northern Benguet had been controlled to ensure there will be no untoward incidents that will transpire causing the local or community transmission of the deadly virus.
He claimed law enforcers and health workers assigned to manage the common triage round the clock were reminded to strictly enforce the community guidelines and health and safety protocols as the threat of the virus still remains, thus, the need for people to continue observing these measures for the protection of their health and safety.
“We believe we can entice our constituents to strictly adhere to the prescribed health and safety protocols during the community quarantine and the new normal as we are still in a very difficult situation where we need the cooperation of everyone to sustain our gains from the implementation of the Luzonwide lockdown,” Mayor Ayong stressed.

Earlier, municipal chief executives of Buguias, Bakun, Kibungan and Mankayan agreed to establish the common triage in Barangay Natubleng, Buguias to ensure the movement of people is controlled following the observations on the presence of too many people loitering in different places outside their residences in violation of existing rules governing the limited movement of individuals and for them to stay at home if they have nothing essential to do outside their homes.
According to him, motorists wanting to move in and out of northern Benguet must have the valid travel documents pursuant to the rules imposed by the national and local inter-agency task forces to make sure their transactions outside their homes fall within the essential works allowed for such purpose.
Mayor Ayong commended the frontliners and volunteers assigned to manage the common triage for sacrificing their time, effort and resources to ensure the prevailing community guidelines are enforced.
He also appealed to the travelling public who will be subjected to the health and safety protocols in the common triage to understand the reason why the established regulations will have to be strictly implemented as the people must be protected from contracting the deadly virus to prevent the uncontrolled increase in the number of cases.
The municipalities in northern Benguet are among the major producers of highland vegetables being traded in the La Trinidad vegetable trading post, the Benguet Agri Pinoy Trading Center (BAPTC) and other private trading centers in the capital town of Benguet.
