BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), through its Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan – Sustainable Livelihood Program (PAMANA-SLP), reaffirmed its commitment to peace-building initiatives with the launching of the second tranche of the YUM-MAD TAWID Organization’s livelihood project in Barangay Guina-ang on March 25, 2025.
The organization initially launched a Retail Sale of Non-Specialized Store and Feeds project. With the second tranche, the organization opted to establish a Grocery Store, with a livelihood grant amounting to P300,000, to further support the community’s needs.
During the Opening and Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony of the Grocery Store Livelihood Project, Municipal Administrator Eric Fulangen, Sr., representing Bontoc Mayor Jerome “Chagsen” Tudlong, Jr., drew a powerful parallel between the organization and the 12 apostles chosen by Jesus Christ to spread the gospel across nations. He emphasized that, despite their limited number, the apostles were able to effectively share their message, much like how YUM-MAD TAWID is starting with a small business and facing the challenge of ensuring its sustainability and growth.
Fulangen encouraged the officers and members of the organization to uphold the unity and harmonious working relationships they have established, as these qualities are essential for the prosperity of their livelihood project. He expressed high hopes that their market would not only thrive within their village but also expand to neighboring barangays, fostering greater community support and engagement.
Project Development Officer II Luis Diwas of the DSWD-PAMANA-SLP thanked Mayor Tudlong, the community, and the organization for their commitment. He reminded everyone that the initiative was supported by the Local Government Unit (LGU) through the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) and that the DSWD’s role is to implement the program and provide technical assistance.
In response, Bertha Ongyod, President of the YUM-MAD TAWID Organization, delivered a commitment speech, vowing to ensure the success of the current tranche while expressing hope for a potential third tranche in the future. By Rachel Ebfan & Alpine L. Killa – Malwagay
