AGOO, La Union – La Union’s 2nd District Representative Eufranio Eriguel have offered P500, 000 reward money for anyone who can provide information on the identities of the suspects who perpetuated the bombing incident on Saturday that killed his driver and injured three of his close-in securities.
Jovanne Cacayuran, the driver, died Monday afternoon at the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center in San Fernando City after he did not survived due to head injuries caused by sharp nails.
The three injured victims, SPO2 Jack Baguan, Eriguel’s police escort, Samuel Ofiaza and Anthony Casem, are still recuperating from serious injuries.
“We are willing to give P500,000 to anyone who can identify the person or persons who masterminded the attempt on my life and the murder of our driver. We urge you to please go to the police for any leads that would direct to the suspects,” Eriguel said in a press statement.
Eriguel said authorities have investigated the cause of the explosion and have traced the owner of the motorcycle used for the bombing.
“However, investigators have yet to identify the mastermind behind this very cruel and violent act which caused not only the death of my supporter, but more so, caused terror to the people of La Union,” he said.
Senior Superintendent Angelito Dumangeng, La Union police director, disclosed to reporters here that Eriguel is the target of the bomb explosion and the motive is politics.
The incident happened just 50 meters away from Eriguel’s house in Barangay Sta. Barabara on Saturday. The lawmaker was about to go on a campaign sortie when his back-up vehicle, a van carrying the four victims, was hit by the bomb explosion.
Police said the bomb, which was planted in a parked motorcycle, was detonated through a remote control but the suspect was late a few seconds in igniting the switch and missed Eriguel’s car.
Eriguel’s car suffered minor damages at the back but the back-up vehicle was severely damaged.
